(Kuala Lumpur 18) After spending half a year on preparation, including intensive training with their partners, cultivating mutual understanding and assigning different tasks, as well as completing the measuring process in eight minutes and cutting and sewing a suit in nine hours, Malaysia's Wong Seng Tat and his team successfully beat out the master tailors of other countries to win the Gold Medal in the 28th Federation of Asian Manners and Tailoring Trades (FAMT 2024) International Master Tailor Competition, the highest honor for the first time in our nation's history. This is the first time in the history of China to win this highest honor.
Wong Shing Yee, 53, is a director of the Snowfall Sewing Guild. In addition to the International Master Tailor Competition, Wong Shing Tat also won awards in the Static Competition in the categories of Creative Suit and Business Suit.

2nd Runner-up in Static Race
The Shirong Sewing Guild held a press conference today to announce that Malaysian competitors made a big splash at the event organized by FAMT 2024.
On winning the gold medal, Wong Shing Tat laughed, "I really can't even think about it, but I went to the competition with a relaxed mindset, I didn't think I could achieve such a result, and the other three members of my troupe also contributed a lot to it, we all worked very well together."
With nearly 30 years of experience in tailoring suits, he pointed out that this was the first time he had ever represented Malaysia, as participants must first win the national championship before they can represent the country in international competitions, but he was surprised to win the gold medal with a bang.
"The participants were all very high level master tailors, and we had to finish a suit in 9 hours, which is very technical and uses a different flannel than normal suits, but I used my past experience with a sense of normalcy, just like I usually do with customers who come to my store to make suits."
However, he mentioned that the fitting session at the beginning of the competition was quite challenging as each team only had 8 minutes to take the body measurements of the models prepared for the competition to ensure that the suits were made to fit the body perfectly, and there were a lot of details that needed to be measured but the time was very limited, which put a certain amount of pressure on him.

Wong Sing-tat pointed out that he and his teammates, Yip Yue Wan, Choi Hon Keung and Lam Sai Wai, had spent half a year preparing for the event, including intensive training, cultivating mutual understanding and assigning different tasks, to ensure that they could work together seamlessly, and believed that this was the reason why they were able to lift the championship.
As for the two suits that won the two first runner-up prizes in the Static Competition, Wong Shing Tat said that each suit took an average of two months to complete, and because it was handmade, every detail had to be grasped with great precision, and luxurious materials were used.
He revealed that one of the suits was made of the world's finest fabric "Scabal" from the United Kingdom, with gold threads on the fabric, costing about RM50,000," he said.
